Description

The Troop Support Specialist performs routine and specialized functions for membership development, volunteer support, team effectiveness, and high quality customer service for the council. The specialist is responsible to analyze, develop, recommend, and follow best practices for successfully culminating recruitment efforts, providing volunteer and troop support, increasing troop membership and volunteer participation, and reaching team goals. She/he will accomplish this by initiating and pursuing communication strategies and protocols to support registered troop members and volunteers; contribute to, coordinate, and support team initiatives; and provide information required for customer service, reporting, and decision making at all levels of the organization. The specialist regularly runs and reviews membership reports to identify and communicate membership changes or issues to the team and management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may need to be assigned according to the particular needs of your council and areas of supervision.
  • Supports implementation of troop membership development strategies outlined in the councils strategic plan, annual business plan, and/or other council goals.
  • Ensures and provides high-quality customer service.
  • Create, implement and evaluate techniques to ensure the effective delivery of GS program within troops.
  • Effectively manages time in order to meet established goals.
  • Development and provide of a level program kits that act as a resource for program delivery for volunteers.
  • Create, implement and evaluate program kits for assigned age level.
  • Effectively utilizes membership management system to ensure all records provide a complete history for each member.
  • Prepares and reviews a variety of status reports, including membership development, troop rosters, weekly activity reports, team status reports, and others as assigned.
  • Provides back-up to Customer Care team with customer support, recruitment, and system tasks.
  • Assists in designing, implementing, and achieving the council goals for girl and adult troop membership and volunteer recruitment through implementing membership strategies in assigned level.
  • Promotes and assists with council wide programs, activities, public relations and fund development endeavors.
  • Ensure Girl Scouting is open to all girls and adults by delivering the Girl Scouts message of pluralism and diversity to members of the council.
  • Work interdepartmentally to ensure council goals are met.
  • Attend all regular staff meetings, team meetings, and other staff meetings when requested or assigned.
  • Engages in regular personal, professional, and/or leadership development via webinars, books, trainings or other opportunities.
  • Promote good working relationships with staff and volunteers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  1. Education and/or Experience
  • Minimum of 5 year of directly relevant work experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, sufficient technical ability to easily work in multiple digital environments such as, online training platforms, membership databases and the like. Salesforces experience preferred.
  • Ability to project a high level of professionalism while networking in the public arena. Ability to speak passionately and with conviction about the organizational mission and its importance.
  • Demonstrate a commitment and ability to interact with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle sensitive information; ability to manage conflict resolution
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Drivers License Required
Language Skills
Excellent, effective English language abilities, both oral and written
Reasoning Ability
Demonstrated reasoning ability, in order to successfully lead and/or manage responsibilities as described above.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work while managing multiple deadlines

  • Sufficient eye-to-hand coordination to successfully operate a computer keyboard
  • Ability to give presentations in front of large groups

  • Ability to sit upright for extended periods of time
  • Must have personal transportation and ability to drive, possess a valid drivers license, maintain personal auto insurance and meet the council insurance companys requirements for coverage.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This job functions primarily out of Councils headquarters which provides an environment as follows, professional work space, along with a retail shop, front desk and training center. Off-site work is frequently required and will take place at community locations including schools, churches, office buildings, parks, and other settings as needed.
