Help Someone With Spring Cleaning
TaskRabbit helps you connect with people in your area who need help getting things done — anything from packing a moving truck to calling customer service and tolerating the hold music.
Keep an eye out for virtual tasks, too. These are mostly centered around personal assistance, administrative work or research help. You can do those an earn money without even walking out your door.
Rest assured you won’t be getting paid pennies to solve someone’s Excel woes
Find a Flexible Work-From-Home Job
It’s the freakin’ weekend, so you know what that means… you don’t have to see the light of day for the next 48 hours (if you don’t want).
If you’re looking for a flexible work-from-home job, try searching on ZipRecruiter. When you click over, it’ll recognize your location and filter the results — because, yes, even work-from-home jobs have location restrictions.
Find something that’ll fit into your weekend schedule by filtering your results to include part-time and/or contract work. ZipRecruiter will even let you know if you qualify for the position based on your credentials.
(Psst… There’s also an app for that. Download the ZipRecruiter app for job updates.)
Declutter Your World
It’s time to CLEEEAANNNNN! Start taking a good hard look at your belongings. What do you actually need? Sort through everything — then sell it all for money.
- Clothes: If you have clothes you haven’t worn in the last year, why do you hang onto them? Try selling them to folks in your area through an online marketplace like Letgo. It takes about five minute to list an item.
- Technology: Begin with your overcrowded entertainment center, likely full of outdated music and movies. Consider selling these items to Decluttr. It’ll buy your old CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, video games and even cell phones and tablets. Shipping is free, and Decluttr pays you within 24 hours of retrieval.
- Books: Have any old college textbooks? Through Amazon Trade-In, you can trade in your used textbooks, plus other items, like electronics, in exchange for an Amazon gift card.
- Gift cards: While you’re digging out those stiff winter coats, check the pockets. You might come across a gift card or two in there. If you do, sell it for rent money through a gift-card exchange site like Raise.
Hopefully this won’t take more than a weekend or two. The good news, though? Decluttering just might make room for that desk, which will be perfect when you secure a work-from-home gig.
Become a Secret Shopper (or Worshipper)
Work, work work. That’s all you do.
OK, if that’s the case, then take a break! You can even get paid to take a break. How? By becoming a secret shopper.
Let us explain: Companies hire mystery shoppers to test out their products and services. You go undercover and score your experience. Mystery shopping could include test-driving cars, going to the movies or — yup! — drinking beer.
Penny Hoarder Tyler Omoth tested out mystery-shopping platform Secret Hopper. Basically, it sends you to local breweries and bars. You’ll order a beer, a flight, whatever it asks, and, well, just drink it.
Omoth found the gig didn’t pay super well — but it did cover his tab.
Hang out in Someone Else’s House
Sure, it’s nice to hang out in your own home over the weekend, but sometimes you crave a getaway — and maybe you don’t have the time, money or energy to plan a vacation.
You could plan a staycation instead, and escape to someone else’s house by becoming a house sitter.
You can find house-sitting jobs across the world — if you know where to look. Check out these five house-sitting websites.
Deliver Food
Ahhh, the sweet smell of takeout stinking up your car.
OK, it might not be the most appealing thing in the world — you might want to crack a few windows, depending on the type of cuisine you’re delivering — but Uber Eats offers flexible food-delivery opportunities.
Here are more details:
- Locations: Uber Eats is all over the U.S. — and the world, really. For a full list, go to its location page.
- Pay: Drivers are paid a pick-up fee, for the distance traveled and a drop-off fee. Uber takes a service fee. Delivery partners can cash out up to five times a day with instant pay.
- Schedule: Flexible.
- Requirements include (may vary by location): You must…
- Be at least 19 years old if delivering by car.
- Deliver via car (must be a 1997 or newer with at least two doors), bike, scooter or foot depending on your area.
- Pass a background check.
- Have a valid driver’s license and insurance (if you deliver by car or scooter).
For all the information you need, head over to the Uber Eats sign-up page.
Stay Put and Rent Your Car out
If you’re the type who’d rather just stay put on the weekends, renting your car out could be a viable option.
With the Getaround app, you can safely rent out your car to people in your community and neighborhood. The company insures your car for each trip, offers 24/7 roadside assistance and screens drivers for a safe driving record.
That’s more assurance than you get when your teenager gets behind the wheel…
Here’s how it works:
- Sign up with your Facebook account to rent out your car here.
- Set your own rates and availability.
- You’ll get a notification when someone books your car.
- Your car will be equipped with a Getaround Connect™, so renters will be able to locate, unlock and lock your car from their mobile phone during the trip period. No need to meet in person to exchange keys.
Like many side gigs that involve your car, some car owners worry about the costs for things like gas and wear and tear on the vehicle. With Getaround, renters are responsible for refilling the fuel used on the trip.
We also checked in with the company to see what it’s doing to address car owners’ concerns, and the CEO Sam Zaid told us, “Fortunately, customer feedback is one of the best ways we can learn and grow. We take feedback seriously and prioritize product updates based on our conversations with owners and renters.”
So don’t be afraid to share your experience to make this an even better platform for car owners and renters.
